[SMM Weekly Review] The market demand for second-life application remained stable this week (June 30-July 3, 2025)

Published: Jul 3, 2025 14:31
From an overall data analysis perspective, rigid demand in the ESS sector remained stable at month-end June, with both domestic and overseas demand receiving certain support from mid-year factors and various policies. The auto sales boom driven by auto shows in the early part of June gradually faded, with the penetration rate of NEVs in the market remaining stable. Currently, consumer purchasing power in the end-use market is insufficient, and it is expected that there will be some increase in end-use demand, but it will be relatively limited. In terms of market transactions, as of month-end June, market transactions remained sluggish, with some second-life battery producers largely refraining from building up inventory and maintaining a just-in-time procurement strategy. By July, after the mid-year period, there is further room for demand in the NEV and ESS markets to decline.

According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month. Based on preliminary January data, these producers achieved sales of 830,000 units in January. As most producers have already locked in their major sales figures, by applying the structural proportion from the previous month to the current month's data, the estimated wholesale sales of passenger NEVs nationwide in January were 900,000 units. According to comprehensive preliminary monthly association data: the estimated wholesale sales of NEVs by national passenger car producers in January 2026 were 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.
